Lions Take Third at Savannah Intercollegiate

Nathan Han finishes in third place with a four-under-par 67-73-70-210; three Lions finish in top-20 including Han (3rd), DJ. Francey (9th), and Pat Healy (19th).
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Led by Nathan Han's third place finish and three players in the top-20, Columbia surged up the team leaderboard and finished the Savannah Intercollegiate in third place with a two-under-par 293-284-285-862 on Sunday at Crosswinds Golf Club. The event represented Columbia's first competition of the spring 2021-22 season. Final results are available on Golfstat at this link.
The Lions ended just six strokes behind team champion Troy (8-under-par, 288-280-288-856) and four strokes behind second place Southern Illinois (6-under-par, 289-284-285-862).
Han finished the weekend with a four-under-par 67-73-70-210. On Sunday, Han registered a two-under-par 70, doing most of his damage on the back nine where he sank three straight birdies on holes 12, 13, and 14. Han finished the first round in second place with a five-under-par 67. He was on fire as he carded five birdies on holes 3, 7, 10, 11, and 16, along with 13 pars. In the second round, he cooled off a bit with only three birdies but remained in the field's top-5. He concluded the two-day invite with 13 birdies.
DJ Francey moved up three spots and finished the invite in ninth place at one-under-par 76-68-71-215. He moved up from 12th place through the first two rounds. On Sunday, Francey did the damage on the back nine as he shot a three-under-par 33 with three birdies and six pars. Francey moved up 31 spots in the second round with a 68 while taking advantage of an eagle on hole 2 and four birdies. On the front nine, he finished with a scorching 32.
Pat Healy finished in 19th place at three-over-par 74-72-73-219. After carding two birdies en route to a first round 74, Healy totaled four birdies in the second round to maintain his standing. For the third round he carded three birdies.
Daniel Core, who ended the first day in 53rd place, moved up 18 spots in the standings on Sunday and concluded the weekend in 35th place at seven-over-par 81-71-71-223. In Saturday's second round, he moved up 22 spots in the standings with a 71 that saw him card four birdies. His Sunday 71 included four birdies and an eagle on hole 7.
Wyatt McGovern rounded out Columbia scorers in 65th place at 15-over-par 76-77-78-231. Two Lions competed as individuals as Alvin Kwak (53rd place, +13, 77-78-74-229) and William Sung (75th place, +18, 77-77-80-234).
Southern Illinois' Matthis Besard won the individual title with a 16-under par 66-64-70-200.
Seventeen teams competed at the event including Belmont, Columbia, Eastern Kentucky, Florida A&M, George Washington, Georgia Southern, Lafayette, Longwood, Miami, Ohio, North Carolina Central, Northern Kentucky, Northern Kentucky B, SCAD-Savannah, South Carolina-Beaufort, Southern Illinois, Troy, and Wright State.
