Columbia Heads To The Armory For Ivy League Indoor Heps

The Ivy League Heps Indoor Track & Field Championships run over the weekend of Feb. 26-27.
NEW YORK — The season began in December, and all the roads have eventually led to The Armory, as Columbia Track & Field heads uptown to take aim at the Ivy League in the Ivy League Heps Indoor Track & Field Championships, set to run over the weekend of Feb. 26-27 with the weekend's opening event scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
Saturday's events open with the women's pentathlon 60mH, with doors opening at 8 a.m. On Sunday, when majority of the track events will be decided, the doors open at 9 a.m., with the opening event contested being the men's heptathlon 60mH.

LAST TIME OUT: Columbia last competed two weeks ago, as the squad split up and took part at the Rutgers Indoor Invitational (Feb. 11-12) and the BU David Hemery Valentine Invite (Feb. 11-12). The Rutgers Invite was held at The Armory, while a handful of Lions made the trip to Boston, Massachusetts for the BU Invite.
A pair of school records fell over the weekend, with David Vorbach setting his second program record of the year, with a time of 8:00.77 to win the 3,000-meter run at the Rutgers Invite. While in Boston, Jahi Hernandez broke his own school record in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 21.48.
Columbia also swept the one-mile run at the Rutgers Invite, with Nikki Vanasse and Michael Danzi each taking first in the race. Vanasse finished with a time of 4:42.16, while Danzi crossed at 4:01.40.
Phoebe Anderson added to Columbia's wins, finishing first in the 3,000m at the Rutgers Invite, crossing the line at 9:23.54.
Overall, the Lions had four first place finishes and 14 top five-finishes at the Rutgers Invite. While in Boston, Columbia had a combined six top-1o finishes across seven events.
VORBACH REWRITES THE BOOK: Vorbach has set two school records in both the 5,000m and 3,000m. Both races being run at The Armory and both races coming in back-to-back weekends.
At the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge (Feb. 4), Vorbach finished first with a program record time of 13:55.02 in the 5,000m. That sits as the fifth best time in the Ivy League this year.
While at the Rutgers Indoor Invitational (Feb. 12), Vorbach cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 8:00.77 in the 3,000m. Setting a program record and running the eighth best time in the league this year.
RETURNING CHAMPION: At the 2020 Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Heps, Columbia won three events, and of those three student athletes one returns looking to regain her crown as Anna Jordahl-Henry will defend her high jump title. In 2020, she cleared 5-10.50/1.79m to win the event, making the mark in her first attempt at 1.79m.
So far this season, Jordahl-Henry has cleared a mark of 5-07.75/1.72m, the fifth best mark in the Ivy League this season.
HER TIME: A two-time triple jump runner up, once at the 2019 Outdoor Heps and once at the 2020 Indoor Heps, Kali Hatcher looks to finally finish first as she is favored to take the crown in the triple jump. She earned that favoring by recording the best mark in the league this season, 40-10.25/12.45m and the 2019 Pan-American U20 competitor (USA) looks to leap to victory in her senior year.
MORRIS SETS THE RECORD: At the Bill Ward Invitational on Dec. 5, 2021, McKinlee Morris broke a 27-year old program record in the shot put with a toss of 46-2.75/14.09m on her first career collegiate throw. She broke the previous mark that was held by Rachelle Noble, who in 1994, posted a mark of 13.46m.
