"The aim of the National Collegiate Lightweight Invitational, the first event on our recently installed four-lane race course, is to combine historical cup races with younger programs and new matchups in a single event to kick off the race season," Columbia Head Lightweight Coach Nich Lee Parker said. "Coaches from lightweight programs across the country, including those not in attendance today, spent the past two years creating the structure to deliver an inclusive lightweight rowing event. As such, we are especially excited to host lightweight crews or programs that recently received varsity status (Florida Tech, Gordon, and Iona) as well as historically competitive clubs (Cal and Delaware)."
In Lightweight, the Lions will take on the Princeton Varsity-8s for the prestigious Campbell Cup. The annual challenge, which began in 2017, is named after Columbia alum, the late William V. Campbell '67. The cup honors Campbell for his lifetime commitment to Columbia University and its athletics program. Campbell, the former captain and head coach of the Columbia Football team, was one of the most passionate supporters of Columbia and Ivy League athletics, His leadership and dedication to Columbia are unparalleled. In recognition of his devotion and contributions to Columbia Athletics, Campbell's uniform number 67 has been retired in perpetuity throughout the Columbia Athletics program. That race will occur at 9:10 a.m.
Columbia's Lightweight 1:20 p.m. race against Harvard and Georgetown is known as the Wales-Kirrane Cup.

This year marks the first year since 2019 that the cup has been in play.
The Lion women are competing in their second regatta of the year after traveling to Cherry Hill, N.J. last Sunday for the Doc Hosea Invitational.
