No. 56 Lions Defeated on Road at Dartmouth 4-3

Jennifer Kerr, Melissa Sakar, and Michelle Xu win singles matches, Kerr and Shivani Amineni win doubles match for Lions.
HANOVER, N.H.—Despite singles wins from Jennifer Kerr, Melissa Sakar, and Michelle Xu, No 56 ranked Columbia women's tennis was defeated 4-3 on the road at Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon.
Dartmouth claimed the doubles point as it took two of the three matches. Katie Weber and Elizabeth Fahrmeier gave Dartmouth the advantage with a 6-4 win over Columbia's Akanksha Bhan and Melissa Sakar at No. 1 doubles, but the Lions' Jennifer Kerr and Shivani Amineni won a 7-5 decision at No. 3 over Chloe Yoo and Lexi Dewire. Dartmouth's Hess and Okpara followed with a hard-fought 7-6 (4) win at No. 2 over Winta Tewolde and Anna Zhang.
The Big Green took a 2-0 lead when Emily Zhou won a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles over Clarine Lerby. But the Lions battled back to tie the match a 2-2 when Melissa Sakar defeated Weber 6-2, 6-3 at No .3 singles, and Jennifer Kerr defeated Ashley Hess 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
Dartmouth's Chidimma Okpara followed with a 7-5, 7-6 (4) win over Columbia's Akanksha Bhan at No. 1 singles and the Lions' Michelle Xu tied the match with a 7-6 (4), 7-6 (1) win at No. 6 over Jingyi Peng.
Fahrmeier clinched the win for Dartmouth with a 7-6 (3), 3-6, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles over Columbia's Julia Haynes. Dartmouth improved to 7-9 overall and 1-2 in Ivy League play.
Columbia (10-10, 0-3 Ivy League) gets back into action at home next weekend as it hosts Brown (Saturday) and Yale (Sunday). Both matches begin at 1 p.m. on their respective days.
