#25 Men's Tennis Defeats Yale in Second Weekend Win

Columbia went 2-0 against Ivy League teams this weekend.

New Haven, CT -- The #25 Columbia men's tennis team defeated fellow Ivy League competitor Yale, 6-1, less than 24 hours after sweeping Brown on the road. With this pair of victories, the Lions move to 3-1 in conference play having conquered Dartmouth, 7-0, last weekend.

The #50 doubles team of Max Westphal and Theo Winegar continued their dominant league stance, defeating Renaud Lefevre and Cody Lin, 6-3. Playing on the third doubles court, teammates Henry Ruger and Roko Horvat toppled Michael Sun and Luke Neal 6-2 to secure the doubles point.

In the singles competition, #16 Alex Kotzen battled with Yale's #114 Michael Sun for over two and a half hours. Kotzen claimed the first set 6-4 while Sun took the second in a 7-6 tiebreaker set. With the match on the line, the Columbia sophomore rallied to once again produce a 6-4 result for the overall victory.

Austen Huang and Roko Horvat gritted out tough three-set victories from the fifth and sixth courts, respectively. Huang dropped his first set to Yale's Walker Oberg, 6-4, before storming back to claim the second 6-3 and the third 6-0. Horvat endured a similar fate, falling in the first set (6-3) then taking the match with strong second and third sets (6-4, 6-4).

Playing from Columbia's third spot, Westphal was once again victorious over Lin, taking a 6-3, 6-4, straight-sets win. Additionally, Henry Ruger was quick in claiming a straight-set victory, defeating the Bulldogs' Aidan Reilly in under an hour (6-2, 6-1).

This Friday, Columbia will travel to Philadelphia for a 2:00 P.M. match at the University of Pennsylvania.
