A QUICK LOOK AT THE LIONS

Columbia enters the weekend as one of the favorites to capture the Ivy League Championship as it boasts the league's second-lowest team scoring average (289.21) through its fall and spring invitationals. Harvard enters as the leader with a league-low 288.0 average.

The Lions have won two team championships on the season as they captured the Doc Gimmler and the Metropolitan Intercollegiate during the fall season. Overall, the Lions have combined for a successful fall and spring season as they have finished higher than fourth place in seven out of nine competitions. Columbia has also posted a 79-42 record in head-to-head matchups against its opponents.

Sophomore Nathan Han enters the weekend enjoying one of the best seasons ever for a Columbia golfer. The Somers, N.Y. native is currently averaging 71.74, which would establish a new school-record for lowest scoring average in a season. He leads team in scoring average by a two-stroke average, has a team-best three top-5 finishes, six top-10 finishes, and nine top-25 finishes. Han also leads the squad with 13 par or better rounds and ranks No. 2 in school history (15 is the record) with two events to go. He shot a career-low 66 at the Columbia Spring Invitational, which ranks as the fourth lowest round in school history, finished second at Columbia Spring Invitational (+1), third at the Savannah Intercollegiate (-6), eighth at the Doc Gimmer (-1), ninth at Cornell Invitational (+1) and eighth at the Princeton Invitational (Even).

Sophomore DJ Francey owns Columbia's second-lowest scoring average at 73.11. He has one top-5 finish, three top-10 finishes and seven top-25 finishes and six par or under-par rounds this year. His season-low round of 68 came at the Savannah Intercollegiate and his top finishes included a pair of ninth place performances at the Columbia Autumn Invite and Savannah Intercollegiate.

Senior Daniel Core enters the weekend with a career scoring average of 73.52, which would rank No. 2 in school history if he met the minimum round requirement. A Second Team All-Ivy League honoree as a first-year, he holds the school records for lowest round score for a first-year (66). The William Terminello Award winner in 2018-19, he finished seventh at Ivy League Championship in 2019 (+7), placed second at Cornell Invitational (+7) in 2019, took seventh at UConn Collegiate at Great Horse in 2019 (+4), and finished in fourth place at the Columbia Autumn Invitational in fall 2021 (-5). This year, Core ranks third in scoring average (73.38) with a low score of 68 and has one top-5 finish, three top-10 finishes, and four top-25 finishes.

First-year Wyatt McGovern has registered a 73.95 stroke average, with a season-low of 67 ranked No. 2 in school history for a first-year. Earlier this year, he was selected to participate at the prestigious Genesis Collegiate Showcase in California, the first-ever Ivy Leaguer to compete in the event. McGovern has one top-5 finish, three top-10 finishes, six top-25 finishes, four par or under par rounds and his two top finishers were a tie for a first place at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate (+2) and ninth place at the Cornell Invitational (+1).

Junior Pat Healy rounds out Columbia's lineup with a 73.90 average. He has registered two top-5 finishes and three top-10 finishes, six par or under-par rounds and a career-low of 69. He placed first at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate, shot his 69 at the Doc Gimmler, and took fifth place at the Cornell Invitational.

In addition, first-year William Sung (74.85 average) and sophomore Alvin Kwak (75.03 average) have both contributed to Columbia's success this season.

ABOUT CENTURY COUNTRY CLUB

Located at 233 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, N.Y. 10577, Century is recognized as a Platinum Club of America and is also designated as a Distinguished Club of America. Golf Digest and The Met Golfer regularly acknowledge Century as one of the top courses in New York State and the Metropolitan area, respectively. In 2013, Links Magazine ranked Century Country Club as one of the "100 Most Prestigious Private Golf Clubs in the World".

Century Country Club was started informally in March, 1898 and was incorporated on May 4 of that year. There are several theories as to how the name Century was chosen, including the possible intention to limit the membership to 100 and the establishment of the Club near the turn of the century. The Club first occupied leased premises in the Throgs Neck section of New York City, on a tract of about 60 acres fronting Long Island Sound, where the members had a nine-hole golf course laid out.

In 1904, Century moved to a 100-acre site in Greenburgh, Westchester County. A clubhouse was built along with an 18-hole golf course and several tennis courts. The membership, which numbered 115 at the end of 1898, grew to 200 in 1902, and reached the limit of 250 in 1906. In 1915, the limit on membership was raised to 300.

After World War I, a committee studied the cost of making improvements or of moving Century Country Club to a new location. Walter J. Travis, former British Amateur and three-time U. S. Amateur Champion, was hired as a consultant. Upon his recommendation in 1922, the Club purchased 175 acres of the George W. Fairchild property on Anderson Hill Road in Purchase, NY. The new golf course at Century was designed and constructed in 1926 by the famous British architects, H. S. Colt and C. H. Alison. Colt and Alison were partners in a London firm which also included John Morrison. At its inception in 1920, Colt and Alison were joined by Alister MacKenzie, the famous architect responsible for Augusta National, Cypress Point, and Crystal Downs among others. During the fall of 2016 and the fall of 2017 the golf course was renovated under the direction of golf course architect Keith Foster who was hired for his expertise in renovating Colt and Alison courses. Keith has worked on many prestigious courses including: Colonial CC, Bent Tree, Mission Hills CC, Baltimore CC, Southern Hills, Moraine CC, Eastward Ho, Philadelphia Cricket Club and The Old White Course at the Greenbrier.
