PRINCETON, N.J.—Columbia sophomore
Nathan Han was named the Ivy League Men's Golf Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Ivy League honors, along with fellow teammate and sophomore
DJ Francey, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon. In addition, Han was also named Columbia's Academic All-Ivy League honoree.
Han becomes the third player in program history to be named the Ivy League Player of the Year following Brandon Jowers (2014) and Harrison Shih (2016). Francey and Han become just the second duo in school history to earn First Team All-Ivy League honors in the same season, joining Jowers and Shih in 2014.
This weekend at the Ivy League Championship, Han finished fourth at eight-over-par 75-72-74-221 at the Ivy League Championship. Han led the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.33) and registered eight birdies. On Sunday he carded back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15. On Saturday, he registered five birdies for his 70 after a Friday first round which saw him sink a birdie on hole 2, card an eagle on hole 8, and finish with 12 pars.
The award caps off a successful season for Han that saw him set Columbia's season scoring record (71.96) and lead the team in scoring average, most top-5 performances (four), most top-10 finishes (seven), top-25 finishes (10), and total par/under-par rounds (13). He shot a career-low 66 at the Columbia Spring Invitational, which ranks as the fourth lowest round in school history, finished second at the Columbia Spring Invitational (+1), third at the Savannah Intercollegiate (-6), eighth at the Doc Gimmer (-1), ninth at Cornell Invitational (+1) and eighth at the Princeton Invitational (Even).
Francey's performance ranked tied for Columbia's 10
th all-time best individual outing at the Ivy League Championship. His second place finish also ranked tied for third all-time best individual placing in the school's Ivy League Championship history. He concluded the tourney at seven-over-par 75-71-74-220. Over the weekend, he notched eight birdies and 32 pars.
On the year, Francey ranked second on the squad in scoring average (73.14) while totaling two top-5 finishes, four top-10 finishes, eight top-25 performances and seven par/under par rounds. His top performances came at the Ivy League Championship (tied for second place), Columbia Autumn Invitational (ninth place), and Savannah Intercollegiate (ninth place).
As a team, Columbia battled back to finish in second place in the Ivy League Championship.
