NEW YORK — Columbia cross country and Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Daniel Ireland have announced the 2022 cross country schedule, with the season opening race set for Sept. 3 at Stony Brook and it's highlighted by Columbia hosting both the Ivy League Heps and NCAA Northeast Regionals at Van Cortlandt Park.
The Lions will look to build on the 2022 season, and they return All-Ivy League performers Phoebe Anderson, Nikki Vanasse and Tyler Berg. Berg and Anderson also ran at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country National Championships, after Anderson posted a sixth-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Regionals and Berg earned an at-large bid after a top-15 finish at the 2021 Regionals.
Columbia opens the season at the Stony Brook Invite, hosted by Stony Brook, which is set to get going on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 10:30 a.m. The Lions, on Friday, Sept. 16, then split the squad for the first time in the 2022 season, heading to Van Cortlandt Park for the first time to take part in the Iona Meet of Champions, while another part of the squad heads to Bloomington, Indiana to run in the Indiana Cross Country Invite. Both races set to get going at 10:30 a.m.
September wraps up with a visit to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where the Lions will run at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh. The race set to get going on Friday, Sept. 30 at 9:30 a.m.
Over the next two weekends, the Lions will run on the familiar course at Van Cortlandt Park, beginning on Friday, Oct. 7 at 10:30 a.m., where Columbia opens October with the Mets Cross Country Championships.
