Vanasse And Berg Finish Sixth At The Indiana Coaching Tree Invite

Both the Columbia men and women finished seventh overall.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind./BRONX, N.Y. — Among some of the better competition in the country, Columbia cross country's Nikki Vanasse (6K) and Tyler Berg (8K) each finished sixth at the Indiana Coaching Tree Cross Country Invitational to highlight a busy day for the Lions.
 
Columbia's men and women both finished seventh overall in Bloomington, Indiana, with the men scoring 170 points and the women tallying 185. Victoria Patterson gave the Lion women another top-15 finish, crossing the line in 11th, giving Columbia finishers that cross ahead of power five programs North Carolina, Indiana and Vanderbilt.
 
Vanasse, in her first race of the 2022 season, crossed the line with a personal best time of 20:26.9 to record the top-10 finish, and in 11th Patterson run her first collegiate 6K to lock up a top-15 mark. Columbia's other scoring finishes came from Jordan Mathis' 21:59.6 (54th), Caroline Schleif's 22:10. (58th) and Elia Ton-That's 64th-place mark of 22:22.0.
 
Clocking his own PR time of 23:49.5 gave Berg a sixth-place finish in his first race of 2022, and it was the lone top-20 finisher for the Lion men. The Lions got scoring from Owen Lockyer (43rd/25:12.2), Owen Nelson (45th/25:13.3), Michael Danzi (46th/25:13.6), Jack Bennett (50th/25:58.6).
