Lions continue annual tradition with the Scarlet Knights
Columbia women's rowing begins its 2022-23 in Leonia, N.J. with a scrimmage against Rutgers on Saturday and Sunday. The teams have scrimmaged each other every September since 2017, alternating host sites. The Lions are coming off a season where they placed sixth at the Ivy League Championships.
An experienced group, CU returns all eight rowers: Esme Dodge, Sierra Good, Michelle Drandell, Elisa Luo, Katherine Taylor, Emily Kilroy, and Paige Bryant from last season's Ivy League Championships Varsity Eight Final 1. Chloe Deitz is also back as the coxswain.
Varsity four returners include Caitlin Walsh, Talia Koch, Georgina Seal, Isabelle Busch, Kira Junge, Celeste Funari Muse, and Ariel Cobb.
The scrimmage will consist of one head race piece followed by some 1-4 minute pieces side by side. The Lions will be competing with four eights.
"We really enjoy this scrimmage and it's a tradition we hope continues for a long time," said associate head coach Samantha Warren. "Rutgers is a great competitor who we will see again in our championship season in the spring. The best part is at the end of the scrimmage when the two teams come together and have the opportunity to meet and talk. It really embodies the spirit of competition."
