Lions take seventh in second fall tournament
PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia's Christine Shao carded two birdies and four bogeys for a final-round 2-over-par 73 at the Princeton Invitational. The 54-hole tournament wrapped up Sunday at Springdale Golf Club.
Shao's 73 ties the senior's third-lowest round of her career. Starting on 14, the Green Brook, New Jersey native started bogey-bogey before settling in and birdieing the short par-4, 318-yard 18th. Seven pars and two bogeys on the front nine brought Shao into her final four holes at 3-over, but she birdied the long par-4, 413-yard 10th and strung together three straight pars to finish her round. Shao climbed 13 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 38th (+19).
"I was so happy to see Christine play well and post that round today," head coach Amy Weeks said. "She's someone who is experienced and can be dangerous for us. All in all, we're growing and I'm happy with the direction we are heading."
The Lions (+58) took seventh in the 11-team field. Columbia posted consistent team scores across all three rounds, completing the event with a 19-over-par 303 on Sunday. Along with Shao's 73 was a 4-over 75 by sophomore Paige Harrison. The team's top finisher was Allison Paik, who tied for 22nd at 14 over par. Taylor Zeng (+15) also earned a top-25 in her first action of the season.
Columbia takes next weekend off from competition before it prepares to tri-host the Ivy League Intercollegiate, which will take place October 10-11 at Baltusrol Golf Club. Columbia, Yale and Princeton will serve as tournament hosts in the 12-team field.
