Women's Swimming & Diving Shatters Five Pool Records in Dominating Victory over Cornell

The Lions make it two in a row with 169-126 victory over the Big Red

ITHACA, N.Y.  – The Columbia women's swimming and diving team (3-2) re-wrote Cornell's pool record book on Saturday afternoon with a dominating, 169-126, victory over the Big Red (5-3).

"I'm really proud of this team and its ability to face challenges together and create great team momentum," Head Coach Diana Caskey said. "Cornell can be a really tough team and pool to visit, and they are always ready for us. However, this team was undaunted by that and came in ready to make waves."

Make waves they did, as the Lions set five long-standing Big Red pool records en route to the convincing victory.

Seniors Olivia Jubin and Karen Liu set two pool records each in the afternoon. Jubin won the 1000-free with a record-breaking time of 9:55.38, and also set the 500m record with a split time in the same event. Meanwhile, Liu broke the 200-fly record with a time of 2:00.56, a 2013 record previously held by Columbia's own Caroline Lukins. She then also set a record in the 200-breast with a time of 2:16.25.

The team of Grace Zhou, Georgia Young, Emily MacDonald, and Isabelle Arevalo set the pool record in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:42.39.

Other event winners included Aziza Ganihanova (100-back: 55:55), Ashley Hu (100-breast: 1:03.29), Emily MacDonald (50-free/100-free: 23.12/50.00), and Riley Pujadas (200-back: 2:01.73).

For the divers, Alice Diakova represented the Lions with two second place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter, including two NCAA zone diving qualifying scores, 288.53 and 300.3, respectively. Macy Pine also had a zone qualifying score in the 3-meter, placing third with a score of 288.45.

"Very high level of competition in both events," Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. "All the divers are exactly where they should be for this time of season. Really pleased with today's results."
