Women’s Rowing Earns Hardware at Head of the Charles

Champ 4+ Wins Linda Muri Trophy; Club 4+ finishes fourth out of 51 boats

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Columbia women's rowing wrapped up the 58th Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday at Charles River, earning a first place finish in the Champ 4+ race. The Lions had three crews compete over the past two days.

"This is the highest finish in a championship event for our program," said head coach Emerson Curry. "The group is better this year and it's a step in the right direction for Columbia women's rowing."

Columbia was the fastest of the universities in the Champ 4+ race that featured 18 collegiate boats on Sunday afternoon with a time of 18:29.217. The Lions placed six seconds in front of Virginia for the second-ever Linda Muri Trophy. Muri is a popular USRowing member who was an MIT graduate and nine-time National Team member. The trophy was dedicated in her name prior to last year's Head of the Charles.

In the Club 4+ race on Saturday, Columbia recorded a time of 18:14.41 and finished fourth out of 51 boats. The Lions were a second behind Penn for third place, while Duke and Radcliffe placed first and second, respectively. Columbia's Alumnae Eight boat finished 23rd out of 50 with a time of 17:47.67 on Saturday as well.
