Wimmer makes a season-high 11 saves
HANOVER, N.H. — Columbia field hockey dropped a 3-1 decision to Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Chase Field.
Dartmouth (6-9, 2-5) opened the match's scoring with 9:21 left in the second quarter to take a 1-0 lead. Lucia Campano netted her seventh goal of the season after putting back a rebound into the cage.
Columbia (3-12, 0-7) wasn't able to register a shot in the first 30 minutes, while the Big Green got 11 shots off (six on goal). Maya Walker recorded the Lions' first shot with 9:14 remaining in the third quarter, but it was blocked by the Big Green defense.
Dartmouth scored two goals in a span of two minutes and opened up a 3-0 lead in the third quarter. Campano found the back of the cage for her second of the match with 4:26 left in the third frame. Florentina Terra was credited with the assist after feeding Campano in the circle. Less than two minutes later, Riley Dumigan scored on a redirect for the Big Green's third goal.
Columbia got on the board with 12:13 to go in the match when Jeannine Turgeon deflected Walker's shot into the cage off a corner. The goal was Turgeon's first of the season.
Following just one shot through three quarters, Columbia's offense came alive in the final 15 minutes of action and rattled off four shots in the quarter.
Columbia goalkeeper Katie Wimmer made a season-high 11 saves in the loss, including four in the third quarter. The Lions close out the 2023 season on Sunday at New Hampshire at 1 p.m.
