Zhang, Wang Fall in ITA All-American Championships Qualifying

CARY, N.C. – Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang's run at the 2023 ITA All-American Championships came to an end Tuesday as Zhang lost in the consolation round of qualifying singles and the duo of Zhang and Wang lost in the consolation round of qualifying doubles at Cary Tennis Park.
Zhang started singles qualifying action Sunday, dropping a 4-6, 5-7 match to Texas' Malaika Rapolu. Zhang then moved to the qualifying consolation bracket where she met Julia Fliegner (Michigan). Fliegner battled to take a 7-5, 6-1 win over Zhang, eliminating Zhang from the championships.
Zhang and Wang paired up for qualifying doubles action also starting Sunday. Zhang and Wang lost their first qualifying match to San Diego's Claudia De Las Heras and Jordyn McBride, 5-8. The duo then moved to the consolation bracket and met Oklahoma State's Ange Oby Kajuru and Kristina Novak. The Oklahoma State duo edged past Zhang and Wang, 8-6 as the Lions were eliminated.
Wang is back in action this weekend at the ITA Regionals hosted by Columbia at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center. Wang will play singles in the tournament starting Friday.
