Lions host Cornell in the first of four consecutive home matches.
NEW YORK – The 68th-ranked Columbia women's tennis team returns to action this weekend when it hosts Cornell on Saturday. Saturday's dual against the Bears is scheduled for a noon start at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
LIVE COVERAGE
Action from the Milstein Family Tennis Center this weekend will be broadcast live through Columbia's stretch portal. Fans can also follow live scores online for all three matches this weekend.
ITA COLLEGE TENNIS WEEKEND
Held in March, the ITA, alongside college tennis programs across the country, will take part in the College Tennis Weekend. During this weekend, programs will host activities and events that are aimed at driving attendance at community engagement activities during their home matches. The Lions have been selected as one of those teams to participate in the ITA College Tennis Weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
Columbia women's team battled the elements and host FIU en route to a 4-1 win on Wednesday, February 18, at the PayCargo Center. Columbia quickly captured the doubles point and was leading 2-0 thanks to an FIU forfeit. After a lengthy two-hour weather delay, singles play resumed with Gayathri Krishnan giving the Lions a 3-0 lead thanks to a straight-sets win (6-3, 6-2) on court one. FIU cut into the lead with a win on court two, but Emily Baek clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Maria Araoz-Gosn on court three.
IN THE RANKINGS
In the latest ITA team rankings, the Lions are one of three Ivy League teams represented in the top 75. Columbia checks in at No. 68. Also on the list are Yale at 50 and Princeton at 58.
DOUBLES POINT
Doubles play has been good to the Lions in 2026. Columbia has won the doubles point in all 13 duals this season, which is a big reason for Columbia's 10-3 record. Columbia's top duo of Krishnan and Lin are 16-4 in 2025-26 and 7-0 in the spring. They are also riding a five-match winning streak following their win at FIU.
TOP SPOT
The reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, Gayathri Krishnan, is a strong bet to repeat. The native of Cupertino, Calif., is one of just two athletes from the Ivy League to win 20 or more matches. Her spring record of 9-1 overall and 6-1 at the No. 1 spot is by far the most wins of anyone in the calendar year.
ABOUT CORNELL
The Big Red enters Saturday's match with a 7-6 overall record. On the road, they are 2-5 this year. Last time out, Cornell defeated Le Moyne 7-0 at home on March 25. Dylan Gelber leads the team with 15 wins; she is 4-2 playing primarily at the No. 3 spot. Michelle Ryndin is 5-2, playing primarily at the top singles spot.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will mark the 42nd time these teams have squared off, with Columbia holding a 21-20 advantage in the series that dates back to 1985. The Lions have won four straight over Cornell and seven of their last 10. Earlier this year, the Lions defeated the Big Red 4-2 on Feb. 6 at the ECAC Indoor Championships.
