Women’s Soccer Set For Ivy League Tournament

Columbia will meet Brown in the semifinal Friday at 5 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Columbia will face No. 14 Brown for the second time this season in the semifinals of the inaugural Ivy League Tournament on Friday at Brown's Stevenson-Pincince Field. First kick is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.

"Our team has been feeling the urgency to get a result since Yale and we have shown up with a great mindset all week in training, focused on the next team and next game and what we need to do to win it," Columbia Women's Soccer Head Coach Tracey Bartholomew said. "The momentum going into the tournament is wonderful to have.  It all starts over though and anything can happen. Brown has been the top program for the past four seasons and our team is focusing everything on beating them. The winning mindset helps keep our confidence high, which we want to have against Brown."

THE REMATCH
Columbia will meet Brown for the second time this season after the Bears took a 1-0 win on October 14 in New York. Goalkeeper Paige Nurkin tallied four saves in the game. Kat Jordan, Sam Gordon and Shira Cohen each fired a shot on goal.

The Lions will be looking for revenge and a spot in the Ivy League Tournament championship game when the teams meet Friday. Brown enters the contest ranked 14th in the nation with an 11-1-2 overall record. The Bears finished off a perfect 7-0 mark in Ivy League play with a 2-0 win over Dartmouth last Saturday.

"Brown is a very strong team with a lot of talent," senior midfielder Kat Jordan said. "All the girls and coaches know this and respect that program. However, I think we have realized this season that we are also such a strong program with so much depth and talent. Every player is so important to the success of our team, and everyone has contributed to the highest RPI this program has been ranked. We have played Brown before, and it is important for us to be locked in leading up to this game and match-up physically and technically. If we play to our best ability on Friday, I think this game will be very exciting."

CLEAN SHEETS
Columbia finished the regular season in style with back-to-back shutout wins against Yale and Princeton to secure a spot in the Ivy League Tournament. Nurkin registered three saves in the win over Yale and three saves in the win at Princeton.

Kat Jordan has been critical down the stretch for the Lions as she scored a goal against Yale and Princeton. Jordan scored her seventh goal of the season to help lead the Lions to the 1-0 win over Princeton. It also marked her fourth game-winning goal of the season as Columbia defeated Princeton for the first time since 2017.

CHECKING THE STATS
Nurkin has allowed just six goals all season for a goals against average of 0.46, which is currently tied for 10th in the nation. Nurkin finished the regular season with seven shutouts as she registered eight wins. She tallied 47 total saves for a save percentage of 88.7%, which ranks No. 7 in the country.

The Columbia defense had 10 clean sheets this season, with nine of those being wins. As a team, Columbia ranks fourth in the nation in shutout percentage and goals against average currently.

Jordan leads the Lions in goals with seven so far this season. Nata Ramirez, Maia Tabion and Kendall McBride are each credited with three goals. Madi Pilla leads the team in assists with four. Ramirez and Tabion have each chipped in with three.

RECORD WATCH
  • Columbia has tied the program record of 10 shutouts for a single season that was set in 1998. One more shutout would set a new program record of shutouts in a single season.
  • Goalkeeper Paige Nurkin is one shutout away from tying the program record for shutouts in a single season. Ali Ahern currently holds the record for eight shutouts in 1998.
  • With three more saves, Nurkin would qualify for the individual save percentage record with a minimum of 50 saves. Nurkin's current save percentage of .887 is better than the current singles season record of .861 set by Ali Ahern in 1996.
  • Kat Jordan is two goals away from joining the record list for goals scored in a single season. With nine, Jordan would be tied at eighth in program history.
