PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Columbia women's swimming and diving team moved up to fourth place after two nights at the 2023 Ivy League Championships. This year's event, taking place on the campus of Princeton University, will run through February 18, with two more full days of events still to be completed.
The Lions have accumulated 359 points thus far, currently sitting behind third-place Yale with 419 points. Harvard still holds second place with 422 points, while Princeton remains in first place with 573 points.
"A great full first day effort," Head Coach
Diana Caskey said. "So many great swims, and an amazing all-around team effort. Hoping to keep the momentum going into day three tomorrow morning!"
Tonight, Columbia competed in the 500-free, 50-free, 200-IM and the 200-free relay, along with the 1-meter diving competition.
The highlight of the night for the Lions came in the final event, when the 200-free relay squad consisting of
Emily MacDonald,
Sally Ma,
Isabelle Arevalo, and
Georgia Young took home the bronze medal with a time of 1:30.91. This time marked a new program record in the event, as well.
MacDonald had the performance of the night in the individual events, also taking home a bronze medal along with a new program record. The sprinter shattered her own Columbia record with a time of 22.43 in the 50-free to take home third place.
Other top-eight finishes on day two included a fourth place finish from
Karen Liu in the 200-IM (1:59.44), a fifth place finish for
Olivia Jubin in the 500-free (4:46.45), a sixth place finish for
Aziza Ganihanova in the 500-free (4:47.74), and a seventh place finish for Arevalo in the 50-free (22.70).
