Reigning Ivy League Men’s Golfer of the Year lowers stroke average to 68.76
PHOENIX — Columbia men's golf junior Nathan Han posted a final-round 4-under-par 67 to take third at the GCU Invitational. The 54-hole tournament wrapped up on Tuesday at Grand Canyon University's GCU Golf Course.
Han posted a tournament total of 10-under-par 203. He picked up his fourth consecutive top-three finish and has now earned a top-10 in all six tournaments of the 2022-23 academic year. A native of Somers, New York, Han lowered his stroke average to 68.76 across 17 rounds on his junior campaign.
"Nathan continues to be a very dominant player in every tournament we enter," Director of Golf Rich Mueller said. "He's always in contention."
Han's 67 tied for the second-lowest round of the day. He entered the round four shots off the lead and teed off on the par-4 fifth. After two birdies and two bogeys through 11, Han turned it on with three straight birdies on 16, 17 and 18, getting to 3-under on his round with four holes to play. He carded his final birdie at the par-5, 640-yard third before closing with a par at the fourth. He finished three shots back of North Dakota State's Nate Adams (-13).
Columbia took sixth in a very competitive field. They wrapped it up with a 1-under-par 282 on Tuesday to finish the tournament 4 over par. Along with Han's 67, DJ Francey shot a 3-under 68 and Wyatt McGovern carded an even-par 71. After doubling his opening ninth, Francey went bogey-free the rest of the round, including three birdies and an eagle at the par-5 18th.
"The team put forth a great performance. I think we might have run out of steam in Monday's second round, but otherwise, I'm proud of our performance," Mueller added.
The Lions will host the Columbia Spring Invitational on Monday, April 3, at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania.
