Han Begins NCAA Regionals Monday
5/14/2023 3:14:00 PM | Men's Golf
Junior tees off at 10:12 a.m. ET in Round 1
NEW YORK — Nathan Han will tee off in Round 1 of the NCAA Men's Golf Regionals on Monday at Eagle Eye Golf Club in Bath, Michigan. The three-round regional will run through Wednesday.
Han made Columbia men's golf program history earlier this month when he became the first Lion to qualify for NCAA Regionals as an individual. His selection came on the heels of a historic season, in which the junior earned eight top-10 and five top-five finishes. One of his biggest highlights came in the fall at the Columbia Autumn Invitational, where the Somers, New York native tied an NCAA record with a round of 11-under-par 60. Han is one of 17 players in NCAA history to ever card a 60 in collegiate competition. Han also won the Georgetown Intercollegiate at Liberty National over the fall with a score of 5-under-par 211.
Entering plays with a stroke average of 69.88 this season, Han will tee off in a threesome that includes Purdue Fort Wayne's Burke Pitz and Wright State's Mikkel Mathiesen. The group goes off from hole one at 10:12 a.m. ET. In total, there are 13 five-man teams and 75 total competitors in the regional field.
The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to Nationals. Team and individual medalist titles will be decided at Nationals May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Arizona State and The Thunderbirds are the hosts for the 2023 championships.
