NEW YORK — Fall sports are in full swing this week with seven Columbia athletics programs competing on the road. Every week, GoColumbiaLions.com will be using "Lions on the Road" to preview that week's upcoming games and events happening off campus.
MEN'S SOCCER
The men's soccer team (1-1-1) continues a three-game road swing this week with contests at Rutgers (1-3-1) and LIU (3-2-0). Wednesday will mark the first contest against Rutgers since 2018. The Lions are on a three-game series winning streak against the Scarlet Knights and lead the all-time series 14-10-3. The team is coming off a hard-fought, 1-0, loss at Sacred Heart on Saturday, outshooting the Pioneers, 12-7, in the match but unable to find the back of the net. Senior
Will DeNight is Columbia's leading goal scorer with three in three matches, which is also tied for the most in the Ivy League. Senior goalkeeper
Michael Collodi is tied for first in the league in goals against average (0.67) and boasts the league's highest save percentage (.846).
Saturday, the Lions will look to keep their perfect in-state record alive with a trip to Long Island to battle the Sharks. Columbia will be looking for its first victory over LIU since the athletics department moved men's soccer to Long Island and became the Sharks in 2019. Last year, LIU came to Manhattan and picked off a late 1-0 victory. Emil Jaaskelainen scored in the 89th minute to win it. Jaaskelainen has been named to this year's Herman Trophy Watch List.

The volleyball team will conclude its non-conference schedule this weekend, competing in the Red Storm Invitational hosted by St. John's in Queens. The Lions will be looking to keep the momentum going from last weekend, when they earned their first two wins of the season over Manhattan and Morgan State. Columbia was even close to its first win over a Big Ten team in program history, but came up just short against Rutgers.
Hailee Watts was monumental for Columbia, securing a new career-high in kills in each game of the weekend, smacking 13 on Friday before crushing 15 and 17 in two games on Saturday. The Lions won't play St. John's this weekend, but they will have two neutral site games, Bryant on Friday and Buffalo on Saturday.

MEN'S GOLF
The men's golf team couldn't have drawn up a better start to the 2023-24 season than it had last weekend, posting the top three individual finishers en route to a 13-shot team victory at The Doc Gimmler, hosted by St. John's at Bethpage Red. The Lions set program records for 36-hole (532) and 54-hole (811) scoring, completing the three-round competition at 29 under par. Individually, senior
Nathan Han picked up right he left off from an All-American junior campaign. The Somers, New York native posted rounds of 64-64-68 to break his own 54-hole program record and win the event at 14-under-par 196. Senior
DJ Francey placed an impressive second at 9-under 201, which included a career-low round of 62 on Saturday. Junior
Wyatt McGovern finished in a tie for third at 6-under 204, matching a career-low with a 64 in Saturday's first round.
