Lions open at Easton Youth & Collegiate Trophy Tournament
NEW YORK — The 2024 Columbia University archery season is set to begin this Saturday at the Easton Youth and Collegiate Trophy Tournament. The shoot will take place at Spooky Nook Sports in Manheim, Pennsylvania.
The Lions will have seven archers competing in the season-opening event. Sophomore Giselle DeSousa will represent Columbia in the Collegiate Women's Compound Division. Six Lions will take part in the Collegiate Women's Recurve Division, which include first-years Michelle Ahn, Eunice Choi and Emily Rosenfeld, sophomore Lillian Han, junior Judith Gottlieb and senior Erin White.
Live results for this weekend's event can be accessed here.
The 2024 Columbia Lions boast a 12-player roster that includes nine returners and three newcomers. Among the returners is Sydney Sullenberger (compound), who won gold at Worth Youth Championships last summer and followed by winning the National Championship at 2023 USA Archery JOAD Target Nationals a week later. She and Giselle DeSousa (compound) qualified for World Archery Youth Championships. Sullenberger and Lillian Han (recurve) were finalists for the 2023 Columbia University Athletics Varsity C Rookie of the Year.
Sullenberger, Han and returning junior Judith Gottlieb (recurve) were named All-Americans at the 2023 USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals. USA Archery determines its All-Americans by combining each archer's qualifying round scores from Indoor Nationals and Collegiate Target Nationals. There were 10 All-Americans named in both the Collegiate Compound Women and Compound Recurve. Additionally, returning senior Dorothy Vassantachart was named to the At-Large Academic All-Ivy League Team last summer. She and Giselle DeSousa (compound), Judith Gottlieb (recurve), Lillian Han (recurve) and Erin White (recurve) were named to the 2023 USA Archery All-America Academic Team.
Just a few weeks ago, Sullenberger and first-year Michelle Ahn (recurve) were selected to the 2024 United States Archery Team (USAT). Sullenberger and Ahn were each named to one of five in the U21 Division for their respective bows. Sullenberger was a member both in 2022 and 2021, the same year she earned Cadet U.S. No. 1. Ahn continues a run of selections to the USAT, being named in the U21 Division for three straight years (2022-24) and U18 the two prior (2020-21).
