NEW YORK — Columbia women's tennis picked up a 4-0 victory over Penn State Saturday afternoon. The Lions received contributions up and down the lineup in both singles and doubles to improve to 3-1 on the spring season.
In doubles,
Winta Tewolde and Rachelle Rimondini took care of business, 6-1, over Deanna Lasorda and Yvonne Zuffova. Moments later, the Lions' top pair of
Anna Zhang and
Sophia Wang topped Karly Friedland and Oliva Dorner, 6-2, to claim the doubles point.
Natasha Schou kept the momentum going in No. 5 singles, downing Danielle Alamo in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) to double the Lions' lead.
Clarine Lerby followed with another dominant performance at the No. 6 spot, taking down Lasorda 6-2, 6-1,
Zhang locked things up in No. 2 singles after earning a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Zuffova. In No. 3 singles action,
Gayathri Krishnan defeated Alina Lebedeva by a count of 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 1 singles,
Julia Haynes bounced back from a first set defeat to win the second in a tiebreak and clinched another point with after a 10-5 victory in set three where the players played to a 10-point tiebreak.
Penn State received its lone win of the match in No. 4 singles.
Columbia is back in action Friday, February 2 when they welcome Kentucky to the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
