MANHEIM, Pa. — Columbia archery sophomore
Lillian Han defended her gold medal at the Easton Youth & Collegiate Trophy Tournament this weekend. Han scored a 572 in the Olympic Recurve Collegiate Female Division to best the field of 35 archers.
Han, who topped her score of 570 from the event last year, scored 10 points with 30 of her 60 arrows and hit the inner ring 11 times. She beat out teammate
Eunice Choi for the gold, who was also impressive with a score of 565 in her collegiate debut. The first-year scored 10 points with 25 arrows, including 14 shots that hit the inner ring, the most of any archer in the division.
Michelle Ahn, another first-year Lion making her collegiate debut, placed fourth with a score of 556.
"I'm really happy with everyone but it was great to see Lillian defend her title," Columbia head coach
Derek Davis said. "She looked really good and was very calm and focused. It was interesting because, at various points in the day, we had several different archers in the first-place position. It was very competitive. However, once Lillian got into first place, she didn't look back. They were battling it out and it was fun to watch."
Giselle DeSousa was Columbia's lone representative in the Compound Collegiate Female Division. DeSousa placed fourth in her division for a second straight season. The sophomore from the Netherlands scored a 616, hitting the innermost target on 24 of her 60 arrows.
The tournament began Saturday afternoon and lasted through the early part of Sunday afternoon. All Columbia competitors shot on Saturday.
The Lions will make a quick turnaround to prepare to take part in The Vegas Shoot, which runs February 1-4 at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
