Lions seek second straight win
NEW YORK — Columbia field hockey hosts No. 9 Harvard on Friday at 3 p.m. at Columbia Field Hockey Complex for the Broach Foundation match.
Broach Foundation Match
At Friday's match, the Lions will be supporting the Broach Foundation, a 501 C 3 non-profit charitable organization for brain cancer research. You can donate to the Broach Foundation by clicking here. Please add 'CUFH' in the notes section.
This foundation is extremely important to the Columbia field hockey family as alumni Lucy Holzinger '23BC lost her father, Rick Holzinger, as well as her uncle, to brain cancer. The Lions (3-6, 1-2) blanked Hofstra on the road, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Cindy Lewis Stadium. Columbia received goals from Sam Petrucco, Lizzie Adams, and Sophia Abate. Goalkeeper Katie Wimmer made five saves in the cage to earn her fifth career shutout.
Wimmer Earns Ivy DPOW Again
Goalkeeper Katie Wimmer was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced on Monday.
Wimmer picked up her third shutout of the season and the fifth of her career on Sunday in a 3-0 victory at Hofstra. She made five saves in the win. The senior captain had 10 stops at Penn last Friday in an overtime loss.
Wimmer ranks second nationally in save percentage (.871) and fifth in saves per game (8.2). Both marks lead the Ivy League. Wimmer's 85 saves on the season also lead the conference. The Windham, New Hampshire native ranks fourth all-time on the program's saves list with 298.
About Harvard
Harvard is 9-1 (3-0) and has won seven straight games. The Crimson have outscored their opponents 30-10 this year. Goalkeeper Tessa Shahbo has a 0.98 goals against average and 34 saves on the season.
