PRINCETON, N.J. — The Columbia cross country team is set for the 2024 Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championships, which will take place on Saturday, November 2 at Meadows Campus at Princeton University. Hosted by the Tigers, the meet will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's 6k, followed by a noon start for the men's 8k.
Last year's Ivy League Heps were hosted in Boston at Franklin Park, and the Columbia women finished fourth in the competition with 92 points, while the men finished in seventh with 182 points. Through the program's history, the women have won seven Ivy League titles, while the men have won five Ivy League Championships, and both will be looking to add to that number this weekend.
Phoebe Anderson will be seeking a gold medal after earning a silver medal last year with a time of 20:22.2 in Boston, which resulted in her being named First Team All-Ivy. Anderson has already been named Ivy League Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week twice this season, with her most notable performance coming at the Nuttycombe Invite. At one of the top meets in the nation, with multiple nationally ranked programs in attendance, Anderson finished in fourth place in the 6k with a time of 20:11.4.
Elia Ton-That was also named First Team All-Ivy at Heps last year after finishing in fifth place with a time of 20:51.0. Ton-That's best performance so far this season came at the Princeton Fall Classic where she clocked a time of 21:03.0 in the 6k.
The men's top performer from last season returns in Talha Syed, who finished 24th last year in the 8k at Franklin Park with a time of 25:01.4 before going on to be named All-Region at the East Regional at Van Cortlandt Park. His top finish this year also came at the Princeton Fall Classic where he finished 33rd in the 8k with a time of 23:39.5.
Other top performers to look out for are former Ivy League Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Daniela Quintero for the women and Owen Lockyer for the men.
