Ojo scored a goal in Columbia’s 2-1 win over Harvard
PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia women's soccer senior defender Marcia Ojo earned Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday after a stellar performance in Columbia's 2-1 win on the road at Harvard Saturday to improve to 2-0 in Ivy League play.
Ojo was a defender in Columbia's formation Saturday. She contributed a goal and led the team in shots on goal with two to help Columbia defeat Harvard for the first time since 2007. Ojo played 79 minutes and had a major role in limiting opportunities for the Harvard scoring attack as Columbia outshot Harvard, 12-8.
Columbia got on the scoreboard first Saturday with a goal scored by Ojo in the 59th minute. Senior forward Nata Ramirez was credited with the assist as she passed the ball to Ojo from near the post. Ojo stepped up and fired the ball through the left side of the goal to put Columbia in front.
Ramirez was named to the honor roll this week after being credited for both assists in Columbia's win. Ramirez played all 90 minutes and made a great pass to Angel Akanyirige in the 87th minute to help the Lions earn the win.
