
Fencing Hosts Columbia Invitational Friday

The Lions will compete against Stevens, NJIT and Johns Hopkins in first of two home competitions
NEW YORK — The Columbia fencing teams will host three teams for the Columbia Invitational on Friday, November 22, in the Blue Gym in the Dodge Physical Fitness Center. Stevens, NJIT and Johns Hopkins will make the trip to the Big Apple, with the first round of action beginning at 5:15 p.m.
Friday's meet will be the last competition for the Lions this calendar year.
SPECTATOR INFORMATION
Spectators without a valid Columbia University ID or registered QR code will need to enter campus through the Northwest Science Building at West 120th & Broadway. Please spread the word about this as soon as you can. A Columbia Athletics staff member will be stationed in the Northwest Science Building lobby on the corner of Broadway and West 120th Street one hour prior to the event. Fans will need to go up to the 4th floor of the Science Building, walk across Pupin Plaza to the front entrance of the Dodge Fitness Center and proceed to the Blue Gym from there. Maps will be available for visitors in the entry lobby. After the event, spectators should exit the Dodge Fitness Center by retracing their route through the Northwest Science Building to W. 120th Street.

LAST TIME OUT
The Lions started the 2024-25 season with a combined 13-1 effort at the Elite Invitational on November 16-17. The women went undefeated at 7-0, while the men were 6-1 after falling in the final dual matchup of the event to Ohio State.
Individually for the men, Nick Harvey (sabre) and Ethan Kushnerik (epee) each went 13-5. Enoch Xiao (11-1) and Marsel Nagimov (10-2) made a strong impact in foil. On the women's side, first-year Janna Freedman posted a 13-5 mark in epee. Evelyn Cheng (12-3), Carolina Stuchbury (10-2) and Vivian Zheng (11-1) had standout performances in foil. Newcomers Sophia Jakel (12-4), Sumin Lee (12-2), Janet Chen (10-2), along with junior Tierna Oxenreider (10-2) shined in epee.
A LOOK BACK
At last year's Columbia Invite, the Lions coasted in all three rounds for six combined victories against the same schools.
UP NEXT
Columbia is back in action on January 14 for a dual meet against Princeton and Cornell, which the Tigers will host.
