Women's Swimming and Diving Set for Big Al Invite

Lions matchup against Princeton will also be scored
PRINCETON, N.J. — The Columbia women's swimming and diving team is back in action this weekend, making a trip to New Jersey for their mid-season invitational. Columbia will participate in Princeton's Big Al Invite which will begin on Friday, December 6 and run through Sunday December 8.
The Lions matchup against the Tigers will also be scored across the three days, and count on both team's Ivy League schedule.
WINTER SPECIALISTS.
The Lions have made their mark in the winter, winning the past three invites they have competed in. For the past three seasons, Columbia won the ECAC Winter Championships in East Meadow, New York.
Last season, the Lions took home gold scoring 1876 points and beating out second place Stony Brook by over 650 points.
Head Coach Diana Caskey along with the rest of Columbia's coaching staff, was named the 2023 Women's Coach of the Meet.
Emily MacDonald won three events, including both sprints and the 200-medley relay.
Ashley Hu won both the 100-breast and 200-breast.
Emily Wang took first place in the 100-back, touching the wall with a time of 55.65.
Allison Martin won the final individual event of the weekend, taking the 200-fly with a time of 2:03.57.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lions his the road for the first time this season, making the trip to Cambridge for a meet against the Harvard Crimson. Despite some strong performances from the Lions, Harvard came away with a 206-93 win.
MacDonald's amazing start to the 2024-25 season continued, as she won both sprints yet again. MacDonald took the 50 free with a time of 23:17, before winning the 100 free with a time of 50:22.
Sally Ma finished directly behind MacDonald in both events, securing a 1-2 finish for Columbia. She touched the wall at 23:44 in the 50 free and 51.65 in the 100 free.
In the first individual event of the day, Mia Avansino earned second place in the 1000 free with a solid time of 10:20.13.
Jilly MacNamara had one of the best performances of her young career, taking second in the 200 back with a time of 2:01.59.
ON DECK
Following this weekend, the Lions will take a break for the holidays before returning to action on January 14 against Brown at Uris Natatorium. This will also be Senior Day.
