Vanasse won the women's mile, Anderson took gold in the women's 5,000m
BOSTON, Mass. — Nikki Vanasse and Phoebe Anderson won individual Ivy League titles on the second and final day of the 2024 Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Heptagonal Championships to close out the competition in style for the Columbia.
Vanasse was the first Lion to win gold, taking first in the women's mile with a time of 4:36.52. She became the second Columbia student-athlete to win this event in program history.
Anderson followed that up with a dominant performance in the women's 5,000m run, winning the gold medal with an Ivy League Heps record time of 15:41.31.
Talha Syed also had an incredible performance in the men's 3,000m run. He finished with a time of 14:01.63, which would have been good for an Ivy League title, but he was unfortunately disqualified. That does not take away from the outstanding showing he had in the event, and it is an incredible accomplishment.
The Lions also won three silver medals on day two of Heps. Rory Clare took second in the 1,000m (2:46.19), Elia Ton-That won her second silver medal of the meet in the 5,000m (15:58.51), and Obiora Okeke placed second in the shot put (18.46m).
As a team, the women finished in fifth place with 63 points and the men finished in eighth place with 28 points. Princeton finished in first place for the women with 168 points, and Penn finished atop the men's standings with 140 points.
