Tournament’s final round canceled due to weather
KENNESAW, Ga. — Senior Allison Paik and sophomore Yoko Tai earned a pair of top-25 finishes to highlight the Columbia women's golf team's performance at the Pinetree Invitational. The tournament was held Monday and Tuesday at Pinetree Country Club.
Due to inclement weather on Tuesday, the tournament's final round was canceled. The final results are based on the first two rounds, which were held on Monday.
Paik had one of her top performances of the academic year and tied for 19th in the 59-player field. The senior from Providence, Rhode Island carded back-to-back rounds of 5-over-par 77 to finish the tournament at 10-over par. In Monday's first round, Paik played her final four holes at 2-under, birdieing the par-5 seventh and par-4 ninth. She posted two birdies, five bogeys and a double during her second round.
"It was great to see Allison back in the top 20 of a tournament," head coach Amy Weeks said. "The conditions yesterday were tough – it was cool, windy and the greens were fast. I wish we could have gotten another shot at the golf course today but you can't control the weather. I'm also encouraged to see Yoko get another top-25. She's on an impressive run over the past several weeks and I'm excited to see her keep progressing."
Tai continued her strong season with a fourth consecutive top 25. She posted a first-round 7-over 77 but did not make worse than bogey on any hole. Tai made two birdies during a second-round 77, moving her team-leading stroke average to 76.07 through 15 competition rounds.
Paige Harrison (+15) was solo 30th, the best placing of her junior season.
As a team, the Lions (+56) finished eighth in the 10-team field. They topped both Cincinnati (+58) and UTEP (+59).
Columbia competes again in a few weeks at the Navy Spring Invitational. The tournament is slated for Saturday-Sunday, April 13-14, at the naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Maryland.
