ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Columbia's Yoko Tai earned her best finish of the 2023-24 season to lead a group of four Lions in the top 15 at the Navy Spring Invitational. The 36-hole collegiate women's golf tournament took place Saturday and Sunday at the Naval Academy Golf Course.
Columbia tied for fourth on the team leaderboard with Ivy counterpart Dartmouth (+58). Tai, a sophomore, was solo ninth at 11-over for the tournament. She shot a final-round 78 with a birdie at the par-4 sixth to earn her second career top 10.
Sophomore Emma Shen and senior Allison Paik tied for 14th at 14-over par. Shen carded a second-round 76 which included birdies at the par-4 sixth, 10th and 16th. Junior Angela Zhang, competing as an individual, also tied for 14th with a final-round 1-over 73, Columbia's best round of the day. Zhang was very clean, posting two birdies, three bogeys and 13 pars.
"I'm very proud of the work this team has put in and showed this weekend," head coach Amy Weeks said. "Saturday's conditions were extremely tough with sustained winds up over 20 miles per hour and gusts into the thirties. Yoko's 77 in that was so impressive and I'm very happy she was able to turn that into a top 10 this weekend. This course is a good test to prepare us for the Ivy League Championship at Stanwich next weekend."
