Track & Field Finishes Raleigh Relays and Sam Howell Invite

Talha Syed sets new program record in 10,000m
NEW YORK — The Columbia outdoor track & field team had a busy couple of days, taking part in the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State on Thursday and Friday, before finishing up the weekend on Saturday at the Sam Howell Invite hosted by Princeton.
The highlight of the weekend came in North Carolina, where Talha Syed set a new program record in the 10,000m with a time of 28:42.00. His teammate Charlie Siebert clocked the second fastest time in Columbia history in the same race, finishing with a time of 28:52.98. Owen Lockyer was right behind them, crossing the finish line with a time of 29:58.8 which is the fourth fastest time in program history.
Elsewhere at the Raleigh Relays, Devon Davey had the highest finish for the Lions, finishing in ninth in the 400m with a time of 47.93. He also finished 18th in the 200m with a time of 21.67.
The women were led by Mary Caroline Heinen who finished in 16th in the 10,000m with a time of 33:19.09. Sydney Goldson placed 17th in the 400m with a time of 56.69. Nikki Vanasse finished in 18th in the 1,500m with a mark of 4:19.68.
In New Jersey, Leanna Johnston picked up a big win for Columbia in the 10,000m, placing first with a time of 35:19.91. Camilyn Blake won silver in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.05, while McKinlee Morris took fourth in the discus with a mark of 41.49m.
Obiora Okeke and Jacob Ireland both had third-place finishes to lead the men. Okeke took third in the shot put with a mark of 16.90m, while Ireland placed third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:06.10.
