Thirteen-team competition scheduled for 36 holes
NEW YORK — The Columbia men's golf team will host the Roar-EE Invitational on Saturday at Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, New York. This is the second straight year the Lions will host this single-day, 36-hole event.
The field is scheduled to tee off in a shotgun format at 8 a.m. Fans looking to keep up with the action can follow along on Golfstat.
Five-man teams from Columbia, Bryant, Cornell, Dartmouth, Hofstra, Holy Cross, LeMoyne, Manhattan, St. Peter's, St. Thomas Aquinas College, Penn, Wagner and Yale will compete in the tournament. The lowest four scores from each round will count toward the team competition. Wiltwyck Golf Club will be set as a par 72 at 6,684 yards.
The Lions are coming off a fourth-place finish at last weekend's Princeton Invitational. DJ Francey fired a final-round 2-under-par 69 to finish seventh at 1-under for the tournament. Francey was one of just seven players to finish the tournament under par. Meanwhile, four Lions placed in the top 25 – senior Nathan Han (+4) tied for 15th, junior Wyatt McGovern (+6) tied for 20th and sophomore Darren Pang (+7) tied for 22nd.
Last year's Roar-EE Invitational was shortened to just 18 holes due to inclement weather. Han carded a round of 3-under-par 69 to finish tied for sixth. The Lions were 4-under as a team during their second round and had climbed to fifth, but wound up tying for seventh in the team competition because of the weather.
Saturday's tournament will serve as the final tune-up for the Lions before next weekend's Ivy League Championship (April 19-21) at Watchung Valley Golf Club.
