Formosa (-5) finishes solo third; Kulkarni (-3) earns second straight top 10
KINGSTON, N.Y. — Led by the play of first years Alejandro Formosa and Neil Kulkarni, the Columbia men's golf team used a flurry of birdies and a closing eagle over the final handful of holes to earn a tie for second at the Roar-EE Invitational. The Lions hosted the 15-team, 36-hole tournament on Saturday at Wiltwyck Golf Club.
Columbia posted team rounds of 4-under and 5-under for a season-best 36-hole total of 567 and a season-best tournament total of 9 under par. The Lions played their final five holes of the second round at 5 under par, shooting up from fifth place all the way into a share of second. They even almost caught the eventual winner Fairfield (-11), but the Stags held off Columbia's late charge by two shots.
There were many highlights, including three collegiate-low rounds by Formosa (67), Ryan Keyes (69) and Hunter Po (70). Formosa's opening 67 had him among the leaders heading into the second round. He would get as low as 6-under on the day and posted a solid second-round even-par 72 to finish in solo third. Keyes's second-round 69 was three shots better than his previous career-low and was the first sub-70 round of his career. He sank an eagle putt from close range at his closing par-5 second to finish it off. Po, competing as an individual, bested his previous career-low round by two.
Neil Kulkarni (-3) joined Formosa in the top 10 with solid rounds of 1-under 71 and 2-under 70. His 36 holes were nearly flawless, posting six birdies and three bogeys along with 27 pars, which tied for the third-most pars in the 90-man field.
Fairfield's Rasmus Ditzinger was the medalist with an impressive score of 11 under par. He shot a blazing bogey-free second round of 65.
The Lions now prepare for the 2026 Ivy League Championship, which takes place next Friday-Sunday, April 24-26, at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey.
