NEW YORK — The Columbia University archery team takes aim at USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals this weekend. The two-day event takes place Saturday and Sunday at the UREC Turf Field on the campus of James Madison University.
The Qualification Rounds in the 70m Recurve and 50m Compound begin Saturday at 8 a.m. ET. Columbia will be sending
Giselle DeSousa to compete in the compound.
Judith Gottlieb,
Lillian Han,
Michelle Ahn and
Eunice Choi will compete in the recurve. All five archers will be entered in the individual competition. Head coach
Derek Davis will select three from recurve to take part in the team competition.
Following Saturday's qualification rounds, the individual elimination rounds will take place Sunday at 8 a.m. ET. Team rounds are scheduled for 1 p.m., concluding with the awards ceremony at approximately 3 p.m.
Last year the Lions won every medal they contended for. The Lions took team gold in the women's recurve, while
Sydney Sullenberger (compound) and
Lillian Han (recurve) won gold individually. In addition to the medals, six Columbia archers were named to the 2023 All-East Team, which are determined by individual scores from USA Indoor Nationals and Collegiate Target Regionals.
Lillian Han,
Judith Gottlieb and
Dorothy Vassantachart earned the honors in the recurve, while
Sachiko Keane,
Sydney Sullenberger and
Giselle DeSousa earned the honors in the compound.
Columbia is coming off an impressive showing at the Arizona Cup (April 4-7). First-years
Eunice Choi and
Michelle Ahn each earned podium finishes to highlight the performance. Both advanced to the semifinals of the Recurve U21 Women's Division, where Choi won silver and Ahn took the bronze.
Electronic live scoring will not be available for this weekend's event. More information on USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals can be
