Final prep ahead of USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals next week
NEW YORK — Three members of the Columbia University archery team will compete in the Easton Foundations Gator Cup this Saturday and Sunday. The event is being held at the Easton Newberry Archery Center in Newberry, Florida.
Head coach Derek Davis is taking recurve archers Judith Gottlieb, Michelle Ahn and Eunice Choi to the Gator Cup. Gottlieb will compete in the Recurve Senior Women's Division, while Ahn and Choi will shoot in the Recurve U21 Women's Division. The trio will shoot a practice round on Friday ahead of a competition qualification round on Saturday. All archers will then be seeded in their respective divisions based on their qualification round scores for Sunday's elimination round.
Gottlieb, Ahn and Choi are coming off impressive showings at the USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals, which took place April 20-21 in. Harrisonburg, Virginia. Choi won gold in women's recurve, while Ahn took silver and Gottlieb won bronze. In addition to their medals, all three were also named to the 2024 All-East Team, which are determined by individual scores from USA Indoor Nationals and Collegiate Target Regionals.
The Gator Cup will be Columbia's final preparation ahead of USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals, which takes place next Thursday-Sunday, May 16-19, in Statesboro, Georgia. Lillian Han (recurve) and Giselle DeSousa (compound) are expected to join Gottlieb, Ahn and Choi at nationals.
