Women’s Tennis Places Six on All-Ivy List

Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang earn First Team All-Ivy in doubles
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team finished the season with six selections to the All-Ivy list announced Wednesday as part of the Ivy League's women's tennis awards. Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang highlighted the list as a First Team All-Ivy selection in doubles. Fatima Keita earned Second Team All-Ivy singles honors, while Gayathri Krishnan and Sophia Strugnell garnered Second Team All-Ivy doubles recognition. Rachele Rimondini rounded out the list as an Academic All-Ivy recipient.
Columbia shined in doubles this season, winning the doubles point in 16 of 22 total matches this season. The Lions also exceled in Ivy League play by winning the doubles point in six out of seven league matches.
"I am very proud of our doubles teams as they set an unprecedented record winning six out of seven doubles points in Ivy League matches this season," Columbia Head Coach Ilene Weintraub said.
The duo of Zhang and Wang posted a 4-1 record in Ivy League action playing the top doubles spot to secure First Team All-Ivy honors. They picked up wins against Cornell, Penn, Yale and Brown to help the Lions finish 5-2 in league play. Zhang and Wang finished the season with a 17-10 overall record.
Krishnan and Strugnell secured Second Team All-Ivy recognition with a 5-1 record in Ivy League matches playing in the No. 2 doubles. The duo earned wins in matches against Penn, Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale and Brown. Krishnan and Strugnell finished the season with a 19-4 overall record.
Keita picked up Second Team All-Ivy honors for her performance in singles action this season. She earned singles wins in the Ivy League matches against Cornell and Dartmouth and finished the year with a 14-9 overall record.
"It's excellent to see Fatima being recognized by the league as she was integral to the team's success, most notably for her seven-match win streak mid-season," Weintraub said. "She seamlessly stepped up into the No. 1 singles position and No. 3 doubles position when the team needed her to towards the end. Her comeback win vs. Yale to clinch the ECAC title was one of the year's most memorable moments."
Rachele Rimondini rounded out the list of Lions recognized as she garnered Academic All-Ivy honors for her performance on the court and dedication in the classroom.
