Home opener set for Saturday, September 14
NEW YORK — The 2024 Columbia University men's soccer schedule was announced on Friday. The Lions open the 15-match regular season at Quinnipiac on Friday, August 30.
The Lions return a total of 19 players from 2023, nine of which started at least five matches. The team also recently announced the addition of 11 new players, eight first-years and three sophomores. The 2024 campaign will be the second under head coach Michael Casper.
The season begins with three straight road matches at Quinnipiac (Aug. 30), Seton Hall (Sept. 6) and neighboring Manhattan College (Sept. 11). Columbia and Seton Hall will meet for the first time since 2014.
The pre-conference slate rolls on with four straight home matches in an 11-day span. The Lions play in front of the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium crowd for the first time on Saturday, September 14, against Sacred Heart. Fairfield (Sept. 18), FDU (Sept. 21) and Fordham (Sept. 24) follow. All four matches kick off at 7 p.m.
The Ivy League season begins on Saturday, September 28 down in Philadelphia for a matchup against Penn. The Lions are home the following Saturday, October 5, to host reigning Ivy Tournament champion Yale.
Five straight Ivy League games over the five straight weekends round out the regular season. The schedule will alternate between home and away, traveling to Dartmouth (Oct. 12), Harvard (Oct. 26) and Cornell (Nov. 9). The Lions plan to host Alumni Day for their 4 p.m. matchup with Princeton on Saturday, October 19. Senior Day and the home finale are set for Saturday, November 3, against Brown.
The Ivy League Men's Soccer Tournament is scheduled for November 15-17. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for the tournament, which will be hosted at the No. 1 seed's venue. The winner of the tournament will receive the Ivy League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
