UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Columbia cross country program continued its 2024 season on Friday, with both the men and the women competing at the Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State in Pennsylvania.
The men had an excellent showing, finishing in fourth of 18 schools. The women placed 11th out of 17 schools.
Head Coach Dan Ireland was extremely impressed with the start of the season from the men. First-year
Henry Koike-Sieira paced the Lions with a 17th place finish and time of 25:30.9.
Owen Lockyer finished 21st with a time of 25:34.6.
Owen Nelson had the best race of his Columbia career, finishing 27th with a time of 25:39.0. In his first race as a Lion, Brady Hill also had an impressive 62nd place finish.
Rory Clare led the women's team with a 48th place finish and time of 21:32.9.
Brigid McCabe came in behind her in 61st place with a time of 21:40.6. Ireland believes the women's team has a ton of talent and will progress greatly as the season goes on, especially as
Phoebe Anderson and
Elia Ton-That are added back into the lineup.
