Lions head to Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational
NEW YORK — The Columbia women's golf team will tee off at the season-opening Nittany Lion Invitational this weekend. The two-day, 54-hole event will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course in University Park, Pennsylvania.
Fourteen teams will compete in this year's event with more than 80 individual competitors. The teams include Columbia, host Penn State, Akron, Central Arkansas, Central Michigan, Delaware, Harvard, Jacksonville State, Princeton, Richmond, Seton Hall, Towson, Yale and Youngstown State. The course will play as a par 72 at 6,423 yards.
The tournament's first two rounds will be played on Saturday. The first round tees off in a shotgun format at 9 a.m., followed immediately by the second round. Sunday's final round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The Lions are expected to feature all three newcomers in their Round 1 starting lineup on Saturday. Juniors Yoko Tai and Emma Shen will also be competing in the team event. Sophomore Lauren Lee will compete as an individual.
Tai and Shen are Columbia's top returners in terms of stroke average from the 2023-24 season. Tai averaged 76.10 strokes across 20 rounds, while Shen was just behind her classmate at 76.95. A native of Singapore, Tai also earned Second Team All-Ivy League honors by finishing tied for seventh at the 2024 Ivy League Championship (76-78-71—225). She finished the year with back-to-back top 10s and five top-25 finishes. Shen had one top-10 and three top-25 finishes, including back-to-back under-par rounds of 1-under 71 and a career-low 4-under 68 at last fall's Lady Blue Hen Invitational.
