NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team got the fall season started this weekend by hosting the Columbia Invitational at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center. Columbia won 33 of its 37 total matches over three days in a strong performance to open the fall slate.
The Lions rolled through the first day of competition playing matches against Stony Brook on Friday. The Lions took all four doubles matches before prevailing in all nine singles matches.
Columbia met Ivy League foe Cornell in action Saturday. The Lions used a strong doubles performance to win all five doubles matches against the Big Red. The momentum carried into singles action as Columbia took eight of nine singles matches.
Columbia faced its final test Sunday with competition against Indiana. The Lions again shined in doubles action by winning three of four doubles matches. Columbia closed out the final day of action by winning four of six singles matches against the Hoosiers.
Coming off the US Open Junior Doubles title, first-year
Malak El Allami put on an impressive performance all weekend. El Allami partnered with
Fatima Keita to secure three doubles victories this weekend. El Allami also went 3-0 in singles play this weekend without dropping a set.
Amber Yin and
Sophia Wang were the only other doubles team to win three matches this weekend in a dominant doubles display for the Lions. On the singles side,
Gayathri Krishnan and Yin also achieved a 3-0 mark in singles action this weekend.
