Dema Elder Named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week

Elder scored a goal and tallied one assist against Penn
PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia women's soccer first-year Dema Elder earned Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday after a stellar performance in Columbia's 3-0 win on the road at Penn to open Ivy League action on Saturday.
Elder played the center back position and contributed a goal and an assist in Columbia's fifth straight win over Penn dating back to 2019. Elder was stellar in the backline playing all 90 minutes as she helped Columbia earn its second shutout victory in a row.
Elder was credited with the assist on Sam Cohn's game-winning goal in the 39th minute of Saturday's contest against the Quakers. Elder placed a corner kick right in front of the net that found Cohn for the header goal.
Following the assist in the first half, Elder secured her first career goal in the 84th minute to put the game away. Nata Ramirez earned the assist as she found Elder on a pass in transition. Elder took the ball and drove toward the net before firing a shot that rolled through goalkeepers' hands and into the back of the net.
