Track & Field Wraps Up Dr. Sander Scorcher

Joshua Adams, Lucy Henkel shatter program records at the Armory
NEW YORK — The Columbia indoor track and field team hosted the Dr. Sander Scorcher this weekend at the Armory, also known as the Columbia Challenge, and fared really well against a strong field of competitors.
DAY ONE
In the women's 800m, Lucy Henkel had a historic race, finishing third and setting a new program record with a time of 2:05.62. Meanwhile, Jacob Van Orden finished first in the men's race with a time of 1:49.59.
Columbia had two other second place finishes in the running events today. Josie Rempo finished second in the 60m with a time of 7.87 while Hayden Brotschi finished second in the 400m with a time of 48.09.
The men's team had a fantastic day competing in the field events. Liam Wright finished first in the pole vault with a mark of 4.63m. Parker Kim won the weight throw with a mark of 19.04m and Simon Skoumal placed second with a mark of 17.45m.
In the triple jump, the Lions had two top finishers. Madison Williams placed 3rd with a mark of 12.28m, while Rocco Carpinello placed second on the men's side with a mark of 14.64m.
DAY TWO
The highlight of day two game in the long jump events. Joshua Adams finished second with a mark of 7.52m, which shattered the Columbia record for the event. Meanwhile, first-year Madison Williams continued to have a great meet, winning the event with a mark of 6.07m. This is the second best long jump in Columbia history, only .03m off the school record.
The women's team continued to perform well in the other field events with Jessica Thompson and Seraiah Bruno placing first and second in the pole vault. Thompson won with a mark of 3.75m and Bruno was right behind her with a mark of 3.45m.
The Lions had two other first place finishes today in the men's 200m and the women's mile. Hayden Brotschi continued his momentum from Friday winning the 200m with a time of 22.16. For the women, Rory Clare won the mile with an impressive time of 4:39.39.
Columbia also had two top finishers in the men's 5000m. Gavin White took second place with a time of 14:08.62 while Edward Blaha finished third with a time of 14:09.53.

ON DECK:
Next weekend, the Lions will close out January with participation in the METS Indoor Championships at Ocean Breeze. The competition is set to begin at 10 a.m. in Staten Island on Friday, January 31.
