Columbia opens the season on January 20 at Florida Gulf Coast
NEW YORK – Columbia women's tennis head coach Ilene Weintraub announced the 2025 schedule on Thursday. The schedule includes 14 home matches with three of those being Ivy League contests.
The Lions will face a challenging schedule this season that features matches against seven teams that competed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament – Washington, UCLA, Notre Dame, Denver, Cal Poly, Harvard and Princeton.
Additionally, Columbia's 2025 schedule features matches against 13 opponents that finished inside the Top 75 of the ITA final rankings at the end of the 2024 spring season. The opponents include No. 29 Washington, No. 9 UCLA, No. 50 Maryland, No. 32 Notre Dame, No. 62 Syracuse, No. 51 Memphis, No. 59 Rice, No. 68 Cal Poly, No. 57 Denver, No. 55 Yale, No. 61 Penn, No. 36 Princeton and No. 41 Harvard. Columbia finished the season ranked No. 45.
Columbia begins its 2025 campaign on Monday, January 20 at Florida Gulf Coast. The Lions will then travel to Los Angeles to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by UCLA. Columbia will play Washington in the first round on January 24. Columbia will then play either UCLA or UCF on January 25. Two wins in Los Angeles would send the Lions to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Following the trip to California, Columbia welcomes Maryland and Hofstra to the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center for a home opening doubleheader on January 31. The Lions will wrap up the weekend by playing Notre Dame on February 2.
The ECAC Championships are slated for February 7-9 in Philadelphia. Columbia will then travel to Syracuse on February 16 before returning home for its next five home matches against Memphis (February 28), Michigan State (March 2), Stony Brook (March 8 doubleheader) and Rice (March 15).
Columbia travels to take on Cal Poly on March 21 for its final nonconference road trip of the season. The Lions return to New York for three additional matches against Providence (March 23), Wagner (March 23) and Denver (March 26) before the start of Ivy League action.
The Lions start the Ivy League portion of the schedule on March 29 with a trip to Cornell. Columbia then travels to Brown (April 5), Yale (April 6) and Penn (April 11). The Lions return home for the final three matches of conference play against Princeton (April 13), Harvard (April 19) and Dartmouth (April 20).
Columbia looks to build on its success in 2024 that saw the Lions contend for an Ivy League title. Columbia started the season with a 10-2 record that vaulted the Lions into the ITA Top 25 for just the second time in program history. As part of the path to a No. 25 ranking, Columbia defeated Kentucky for its first win in program history against a team from the SEC. The Lions then defeated Dartmouth, Brown and Yale to claim the program's fifth ECAC Championship during Weintraub's tenure. Columbia went on to defeat Cornell, Penn, Dartmouth, Yale and Brown during Ivy League action as the Lions finished second in the league and fell just short of an NCAA Tournament bid. Columbia finished the season at No. 45 in the ITA rankings.
