Case Named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week

Recorded an assist and his first collegiate goal against Harvard
PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia men's soccer sophomore midfielder Will Case was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for games played October 20-26. The league office announced its weekly selections on Monday afternoon.
A native of Yarrow Point, Washington, Case helped lead the Lions to a 3-1 victory over Harvard on Saturday at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium. First, he assisted Brandon Newman's goal in the 59th minute that opened the scoring.
Six minutes later, Case doubled the lead with his first collegiate goal. Alessandro Franciosa sent one of Columbia's four corner kicks into the center of the area. Harvard attempted to clear, but didn't get too much on it. The spinning ball fell to Case, standing exactly on the right side of the 18-yard box. The sophomore took his chance on the volley, driving a low, hard shot toward goal that pinballed off a Harvard defender and into the back of the net.
This is the first Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week selection for Case, and the second selection for a Lion this season (Jack McDaid – Sept. 29). It marks the first time two different Lions have earned Ivy League "Player" of the Week honors since Antonio Matarazzo and Rhys Williams did so in 2014.
Senior midfielder Brandon Newman was named to this week's Ivy League Honor Roll. Newman's goal against Harvard was the first of his collegiate career.
The Lions (2-6-4, 1-3-1 Ivy) play their final non-conference game of the season Tuesday night, hosting Fordham (7-4-3, 4-1-2 A10) at 7 p.m.
