Lions fall to the Tigers, 225-75
"The Lions tried to out race a tsunami today and did not make it!" Head Coach Jim Bolster said. "We had no individual winners, but lots of solid swims. It does not look that way based on the score, but there are many positive takeaways and much to look forward to tomorrow when racing Yale."
Columbia opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, as the A team of Isaac Beers, Joshua Corn, Brian Lee, and Sam Eckert touched in 1:28.09.
Senior Adam Wu led Columbia with another standout showing, placing second in both the 100 free (44.31) and 200 free (1:37.48). Wu also anchored the Lions' final relay, continuing his strong night in the pool.
Junior Isaac Beers was another top performer, earning runner-up honors in the 100 back (46.89) and third place in the 200 back (1:47.28). First year Derek Hitchens joined him in the top five of the 100 back with a time of 48.31.
In the breaststroke events, Joshua Corn placed third in the 100 (53.92) and fourth in the 200 (2:01.62).
Lucas Zhang led the Lions in the 100 fly, taking second with a time of 47.90, while Brian Lee finished close behind in third (48.58). Sophomore Jerry Yan added a third-place showing in the 200 fly (1:47.54).
Distance standout Zach Vasser led Columbia in the 1000 free with a 9:17.46, while first-year Ethan Zhang paced the Lions in the 500 free at 4:36.79.
Columbia closed the meet on a high note, as the 400 free relay team of Hitchens, Eckert, Santos, and Wu captured first place with a time of 2:58.02, securing the Lions' first victory of the evening
On the boards, senior Joseph Nicol placed fourth in the 1-meter dive with a score of 294.53, and sophomore Will Cooley earned fourth in the 3-meter with 321.23 points while notching another zone cut.

The Lions are right back at it tomorrow in their home opener against Yale. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Uris Natatorium.
