Men's Swimming & Diving Beats Penn in Season Opener

Lions defeat the Quakers, 166-134
NEW YORK — The Columbia men's swimming and diving team opened the 2025-26 season in style on Saturday afternoon, earning an Ivy victory over Penn, 166-134, at Sheerr Pool in Philadelphia.
The meet went back and forth throughout," Head Coach Jim Bolster said. "We only won seven of the 16 events, but our margin of victory in those seven was enough to carry us through for the win. Fortunately we were able to stay focused enough to hang on and pick up the season opening victory. It was Penn's Homecoming event, and there is no better feeling than temporarily silencing a hometown crowd."
More information will be provided when the official results are received.
For the divers, Joseph Nicol was the team's lone double winner as he won both the one and three meter events with scores of 333.75 and 359.25, respectively.
Will Cooley took second on both boards, with scores of 323.25 on the 1m boards and 312.83 on the 3m boards. In his collegiate debut, Derek Hong placed third on both boards with scored of 271.20 (1m) and 262.65 (3m).
"I'm really excited about this team," Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. "Watching them work hard and support each other is an absolute joy. Looking forward to getting back to work as we prepare for next weekend.
