Lions kick things off at the Armory Collegiate Distance Carnival
Columbia will look to build off of the 2024-25 indoor season, in which the men finished seventh with 33 points while the women placed eighth with 24 points.
The Lions totaled 14 medals last year at Heps, highlighted by second-place finishes from both the men's and women's 4x800-meter relay teams. Columbia also placed two athletes on the podium in the mile, as Matt Gatune and Rory Clare each brought home bronze. Gatune crossed in 4:03.58 in the men's final, and Clare followed with a 4:42.01 performance on the women's side.
Columbia's men's and women's 4x800 relays were named Second Team All-Ivy. Both winning silver medals, the men's squad of Caleb Gartner, Gatune, Justin Gottlieb, and Jacob Van Orden posted a time of 7:30.41. The women's relay squad consisting of Isabella Shertzer, Clare, Grace Carr, and Lucy Henkel powered a 8:42.05 run to set a new program record.
Senior Elia Ton-That placed fifth in the 3000m (9:30.32) on Saturday before adding another fifth-place finish in the 5000m (16:36.83) on Sunday. In the field events, Senior Obiora Okeke contributed significantly with fourth-place finishes in both the weight throw (20.04m) and shot put (17.97m).
Haydn Brotschi placed fourth in the men's 400m (48.25), outpacing the competition in the prelims while Lucy Henkel finished fifth in the women's 1000m. Ryan Borden added another fifth-place finish in the men's 1000m (2:25.11), and Talha Syed placed fifth in the men's 5000m (13:59.36).
With the new campaign beginning this weekend, the Lions hope to raise the bar and have an even more successful 2025-26 season.
