No. 57 Women’s Tennis Outlasts Memphis, 4-3

Malak El Allami clinches the team victory with a win in the top singles match

NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team won in a thriller against Memphis, 4-3 on Friday afternoon inside the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
 
Columbia improves to 6-4 overall this season with a 3-1 record at home. The Lions started the weekend on a good note Friday and will look to continue their momentum against Michigan State on Sunday.
 
Memphis posted wins in the two and three doubles matches to start Friday's match, allowing the Tigers to secure a pivotal doubles point.
 
Columbia battled back in singles, securing the first three singles wins in the two, three, and four spots. Memphis proceeded to post wins in the five and six singles to tie the match at 3-3 overall. Malak El Allami earned the clinching win for the Lions by battling back in the third set to defeat Leonie Moeller, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to help Columbia finish off the 4-3 team victory.
 
Gayathri Krishnan, Sophia Wang, and Amber Yin earned the first three singles victories of the day for Columbia before El Allami secured the critical fourth singles victory of the match. Krishnan defeated Sofiia Mykailets, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles. Wang bested Alyssa Richter in the No. 3 spot, winning 6-4, 6-4. Yin posted a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Emily Meyer in the No. 4 spot.
